The absolute most critical factor before purchasing this extender is strict lens compatibility. Because the front elements of the extender protrude significantly forward, it will physically only fit into the back of specific Canon RF telephoto lenses that have a recessed rear element. Incompatible Lenses: It will not fit the original, extending RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L, the RF 70-200mm f/4 L, or any standard zoom lenses (like the 24-105mm or 24-70mm).

Secondly, when using this extender specifically with the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM, you are restricted to using the 300-500mm portion of the zoom range. You must zoom the lens out to at least 300mm before attaching the extender, and the lens cannot be fully retracted for storage while the extender is attached.

Finally, please remember the fundamental rule of a 2x teleconverter: you will lose exactly two stops of light. For example, an f/4 lens will behave like an f/8 lens. You will need to shoot in bright daylight or rely heavily on your camera's high-ISO capabilities to keep your shutter speeds fast enough to freeze action.
